Delma Gorostieta, Vice President

Delma Gorostieta was born in Mexico and came to the United States at an early age. She was raised in Oak cliff were she attended Quintanilla Middle School 7th and 8th grade, and then Molina High School. She graduated high school with a distinguished graduate award, top 10 % of her class, and honor roll. She obtained a full scholarship to Texas A&M University where she was a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering and minors in computer programming, geography, psychology and Spanish. While at Texas A&M she obtain awards for Undergraduate Student Research Publication, Association of American Geographers Annual Conference Scholarship Award , Gamma Theta Upsilon Honor Society Certificate, and Texas A&M Deans Distinguished Student Award Liberal Arts. Delma has a passion for writing and is involved in scientific research and has published articles in peer reviewed scientific journals.

She grew up with a single mother and 2 younger siblings and became a first generation college graduate. Delma is empowered by her single mother who has sacrificed her life to provide her with an education. She has great mentors who have motivated her throughout her life such as Domingo Garcia, Shannon Flannigan, and Dr. Chris Houser. She works for Domingo Garcia as his Administrative assistant doing outreach events for the community and through the League of United Latin American Citizens. Now, Delma’s endeavor is Law school at SMU. She is also a human rights activist, environmental activist and a motivational speaker.
